Standard paper mural installation

Ensure the wall is smooth, clean and completely dry for a successful installation. Your surface should be free from old backing paper and contaminants such as dirt, dust, grease, mildew, ink stains — any of these can prevent your wallpaper from adhering to the wall.

1. Remove nails / screws and fill in any cracks.

2. Switch off the electricity mains and remove any socket / switch covers.

3. Sand down any rough areas until smooth.

4. Use a sponge to clean the walls with warm water and mild soap, allow the walls to dry for a minimum of 24 hours.

5. Paint the wall a light uniform colour if it differs significantly from your wallpaper as dark patterns / colours may show through.

Emulsion paint

Allow 4 weeks for freshly painted walls to dry before installation. Please check the paint manufacturer's instructions for exact guidance and follow our 'Before you start' steps.

Plasterboard

Fill any holes and joints between plasterboards, then seal your wall with a primer or diluted paste (also known as wall size). Allow the primer to completely absorb and dry, as this will stop paste being absorbed during installation.

Porous surface (plaster, cement render)

Ensure old plaster is stable and free of mould, and new plaster is completely dry. Cement render/concrete should be sanded smooth. Seal your wall with a primer or diluted paste (also known as wall size). Allow the primer to completely absorb and dry, as this will stiop paste beign absorbed during installation.

Important: Let the wallpaper acclimatise in the room it'll be installed in for a minimum of 24 hours. Simply take it out of the packaging and slightly unravel.

• Straight edge

• Sharp knife (Stanley/craft)

• Pencil

• Plumb line, spirit or laser level

• Squeegee with felt edge

1. Unroll the wallpaper and separate the panels by cutting between the dotted lines. Every other panel on the roll will be upside down.

Identify each panel and arrange them in hanging order on the floor starting with panel one. Ensure the whole mural is the correct orientation by aligning the numbers to the top left corner of each panel. Each panel is numbered in hanging order from left to right.

Please note: If you've ordered multiple murals, they may be rolled together.

2. Lay out panels to check the design matches before installation. If you notice inconsistencies within the print, please do not install and contact our customer support
team for assist.

3. Before you paste, mark the first panel's width on the wall with pencil, then place a plumb line, spirit or laser level on the mark to draw a vertical line. Use this line as a guide to install your first panel. Ensure that the first panel is hung straight — it's vital for successful installation.

4. Use a brush or roller to evenly apply paste to the wall, covering a few inches past your guideline. A smooth, even coat is essential to reduce the possibility of bubbling.

5. Working from top to bottom, line up your first panel with the guideline to hang the paper. Use your squeegee or a soft cloth to carefully smooth away bubbles or ripples.

Important: Do not pull or stretch the material during installation. Work from the top and allow the wallpaper to fall naturally, taking particular care to avoid scuffing or scratching the printed surface.

6. Install the next panel edge to edge to the previous one to achieve a butt join. There should be no overlap.

Visually match the design, then firmly press the panels together so the seams aren't visible. Smooth out the wallpaper as you go.

7. Avoid getting paste on the surface of your wallpaper. Carefully remove any excess paste immediately with a clean, damp, soft cloth.

8. Use a sharp knife to trim away excess paper at the top and bottom of each panel. Avoid dull blades as they can cause your paper to tear.

Repeat previous steps until the last panel is installed.

9. Let the wallpaper dry at room temperature with enough ventilation.

If there's a radiator or other heat source on the same wall, turn it down or off for the first 24 hours of drying to reduce shrinkage.
